At the end of the novel, Paula reflects back on how "All around us are the shared stories that have formed our lives." How did Kai's stories bond her children together? Does your family have any "shared stories" that have become family legend?

Kai gave her children a link, a commonality, that made it possible for them to have a shared experience later in life. Did she possibly believe that her children would some day find each other? Perhaps.
My family didn't have any shared stories that I recall, but I have discovered new information about the family that was not know to me as a child.

Oh yes. It's what makes bonds and enables us to feel connected. It "filled" that empty spot in Paula's heart and enabled her to connect with Julian, and then Hana. I think the drawings of Paula were amazing. It privided a connection to Kai that Paula nended and enabled a connection for Paula and Hana.

The stories gave Paula and Julian a connection which both of them really needed. My father was a big storyteller especially of family history and it has given my bother and sisters a even more of a connection than we had.

The fantasies Kai told Paula and then Hana were like a magical bond created between the three of them. I created characters and stories for my own children who are now grown and still remember them.

I think that the power of story is an amazing force in everyone's lives and Kai did the best thing for her children as a mother by telling them the stories. My family mostly told family stories and I think it was a good thing to have a sense of where we came from.

The stories were the bond to the future of the three. My family had some stories but I don't think they were shared with my brother so did not factual a connection. Most family stories were from my grandmother and that was probably because we shared a bedroom during the winter. Could Kai's stories also been shared because of the physical sharing of living space?
